How I FOUND $600
In 2011 I made the decision to tackle my debt. I was married at the time and my husband was offered a high-paying contract position. With our new combined income we had an opportunity to really slay this monster that we had let grow over the years. I thought to myself that FINALLY we could get started on making a dent in this thing. Because I believed at that time that only people with big incomes could get ahead of their debt and have savings. The first step I took was creating a zero-based budget on paper (well on a spreadsheet). It was the first time I ever intentionally laid out all of my expenses against my income in an organized fashion. That first month using it, I sucked. Nothing was right. The second month after a little bit of tweaking I was shocked at how much money we hemorrhaged every month, even before the new income. Right off the bat I “found” $600 that was bleeding out for no good reason. Right then, I realized we could knock out $7200 of debt that year with really no additional effort or sacrifice. The next month, I found even more areas where we could lean out and “found” even more money.
Here’s the thing. This wasn’t actually FOUND money. “Found” implies that there was a stroke of luck and money landed in my lap. This was MY money that I was unknowingly letting slip through. I was WASTING $7200 a year. The capability to tackle debt was always there even before the income raise. I just didn’t have a way to see it. It seemed counterintuitive that having a budget ends up in finding more money, but there it was happening in front of me. And for the first time I was able to see a path to getting rid of the debt and have savings.
I want to help you “find” money. The Self-Starter Program will show you how. The Mentorship Pod program will also teach you the tools to see a new path toward financial confidence PLUS the addition of personalized attention and accountability from myself and your peers to help you stick to it. Both programs will easily pay for themselves.
