I Can’t Find the Time

At TCM Hub we have been looking at the analytics for webinar purchases. This is so that we can create better content that will serve you in the best way possible. The results from that research was pretty surprising.

For any given course a high number of students only get about 23% through and then never pick back up. And a surprising number never even start!

This is not a judgement. I have a bunch of unfinished webinars floating around out there too. I blamed it on my ADD. And I also put the blame on the fact that I just couldn’t find the time. I was too busy with patients. So I vowed to get to it when things slowed down. Then that lull came and I felt the pressure to focus on marketing to get my numbers back up.

You tell yourself:

  • I’ll get them done this weekend.👉Reality: You spent time with family and friends.

  • I’ll squeeze it in between patients. 👉 Reality: You were running behind all day.

  • I’ll watch it after the kids go to bed. 👉 Reality: You fell asleep on the couch. 😴

Does this sound familiar? 🙋🏻‍♀️

The problem is NOT that you can’t find the time. The problem is that you’re not MAKING the time. Finding time implies that you’re hoping to squeeze it in to your life. Making time has a specific intention behind it. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. Why is it that some people cannot fit everything they need to do in that 24 hours and some people can? Because the people who can are making the time. They know that free time doesn’t just fall in your lap. They make free time happen by only saying yes to the things that are a priority.

So how do they make this happen? With Conscious Planning.

List out everything you need to do that week, then categorize them as either Self-Care, Maker, or Manager tasks. Schedule Self-Care tasks first, Maker tasks second, and Manager tasks last. If you run out of space in your schedule, those items that don’t have a home can be done next week.

For self-employed clinicians, I would categorize Continuing Education and professional development as Self-Care. This is your livelihood and it’s also a profession that requires constant learning to develop your skills. So it should be a priority. So next week put it in your calendar to finish one of those webinars.
